Coasts & Harbours of Elba - West coast

Tutta l'estremità occidentale dell'Elba è contornata da una costa rocciosa e inospitale, sovrastata dalle pendici scoscese di monte Capanne (1019 m) su cui sono arroccati alcuni paesi. Con tempo molto sereno, il monte Capanne si distingue anche a 35 miglia dal largo. D'estate una leggera foschia riduce spesso la visibilità sul mare, ma il monte Capanne rimane in vista sopra lo strato di foschia anche da più di 10 miglia. La sua forma massiccia è sempre la prima a scorgersi arrivando sull'Elba dai settori occidentali.

Il faro di punta Polveraia (torre su casa bianca, alt. 52 m, 3 ecl. b. 12 s) si riconosce facilmente e rappresenta l'unico punto di rilievo di questa zona.
